Frequently Asked Questions (pronounced fak). Documents which give the answers to commonly asked questions about a particular topic. When investigating a new area of the Internet, it always pays to first check any relevant FAQs before asking questions
File Sharing
File sharing exists on networks, both on public and private levels. File sharing typically relates to multiple users having access to the same files, being able to work on them, download them, or modify them at the same time. Among file sharing networks, there are different levels of access, as well as designated amounts of personal file storage that can be shared with the network.
Finger
A Unix program which lets you find out information about the owner of an e-mail address. The finger lets you know if the user is currently logged on, and on some systems will tell you the user's real name, the time and date of the last time they were connected, and other information which the user has made available about themselves.
Firewall
a set of programs in a server that protect information in a private network from outside users.
flame
A vicious e-mail message or newsgroup posting which the author attacks another online participant for some real or imagined transgression.
Flame War
A heated and emotional debate online where policy is ignored.
