What does the word "Unlimited" really mean?
In short, our dialup access is unlimited NOT dedicated.
All dialup services are a 'shared resource'. This means the access number you dial into is shared by many people. As such, the "unlimited access" means you have unlimited use of our dialup while you are actively using the connection and are sitting in front of your computer.
The average dialup user in the United States uses about 30 hours per month. Of course some users only connect occasionally to check or send email, while other people get online every day. Our service accommodates each of these type of users. However, we do not allow people to keep their connection nailed up 24 hours a day.
Connections are not meant to be kept connected all of the time while the end user may or may not even be home using some sort of software utility to keep the connection active. Nor are they meant to be shared with friends.
The connections are not meant to be a 24 hour music download service for example. All ISP's exist because they sell shared modem service which means that the modems can't be taken up ALL of the time by the same end users.
If the modem is connected to one user virtually all of the time then the modem is not really shared, it's dedicated. Dedicated connections typically cost between $100-$200 per month and can be quoted upon request, please contact us for details if you need a dedicated dialup account.
